Seated Figures – progress report.

Seated spectators

I managed to get a complete Scalextric grandstand cheaply at the MK swap meet, and tried the legs I’ve produced so far.  Here are my first observations.

  • My “legs” won’t touch the floor – the drop seems excessive for 1:32 scale, and I’ll stick to scale legs
  • The Scalextric stand seating isn’t a simple “step”, but mimics real stand seating, by having slatted seating – this isn’t to the edge of the step, so the effect is to create a rounded edge to the step.
  • There is otherwise plenty of space for the figures.

So I’ve thought about the solutions available to solve the legs slipping off the stand, and have come up the following ‘fixes’.

  1. Add a block to just behind the knees, to negate the small drop.
  2. Add small “barbs” on the underside of the figures, to engage in the slats.
  3. Let you glue or use double sided sticky tape on each figure to keep them in place.

Of the solutions, #1 is impractical, #2 is marginal and #3 is cheap.

The plan is to sell the main block of figures as a pack of 6, with upper and lower bodies. This will then allow 36 permutations (if my Maths is right) before you then have to fall back to colours to make things look different. I will also be looking to do another few figures as “add-ons” as by their nature, you won’t want to repeat them too often in your grandstands. ;)

Another update in about 3 weeks time – with photos!
